Meridian Banking Platform

Meridian Financial Group

The Challenge

Meridian Financial Group operated on a fragmented legacy banking infrastructure built over two decades of acquisitions. Core transaction processing relied on aging mainframe systems with limited API capabilities, customer data was siloed across seven independent databases, and regulatory compliance reporting required weeks of manual aggregation. The institution needed a unified digital banking platform that could consolidate operations while maintaining uninterrupted service for over two million active customers.

Our Solution

MISALE designed and delivered a comprehensive cloud-native banking platform built on a microservices architecture deployed across AWS. We implemented an event-driven core banking engine capable of processing 50,000 transactions per second, unified customer data into a single graph database enabling 360-degree client profiles, and built a real-time compliance engine that automates regulatory reporting. The migration was executed in six carefully orchestrated phases over fourteen months, with zero downtime and complete data integrity verified at each stage.

Results & Impact

Transaction processing speed improved by 340%

Regulatory reporting time reduced from 3 weeks to 4 hours

Customer onboarding time decreased from 5 days to 22 minutes

Annual IT operational costs reduced by $4.2 million

99.999% uptime achieved in first year of operation

MISALE didn't just modernize our technology — they transformed how we think about banking infrastructure. The precision of their migration approach gave our board complete confidence throughout what could have been an enormously risky transition.

Project Deep Dive

The Meridian engagement represented one of MISALE’s most complex undertakings — a complete digital transformation of a mid-tier financial institution serving over two million customers across retail banking, wealth management, and commercial lending.

Discovery & Architecture

Our team spent eight weeks embedded with Meridian’s operations, technology, and compliance teams to map the full landscape of their existing infrastructure. We documented 847 distinct integration points, cataloged data flows across seven legacy databases, and identified critical compliance requirements across twelve regulatory frameworks.

The resulting architecture was designed around three principles: resilience through redundancy, compliance by design, and scalability without re-architecture. Every component was chosen to serve these principles — from the event-driven message bus that ensures no transaction is ever lost, to the immutable audit log that satisfies even the most demanding regulatory auditors.

Phased Migration

The migration was executed in six phases, each designed to deliver immediate value while laying groundwork for subsequent stages. Phase one consolidated customer identity across all systems. Phase two migrated retail transaction processing. Phases three through five addressed wealth management, commercial lending, and compliance reporting respectively. Phase six decommissioned legacy systems and completed the transition to full cloud operations.

Throughout the fourteen-month migration, Meridian’s customers experienced zero service interruptions. This was achieved through careful use of the strangler fig pattern, where new capabilities were built alongside legacy systems and traffic was gradually redirected as confidence grew.
